In recognition of…

There are many people in our line of work that deserve recognition for their contribution to the field of wildlife rehabilitation. They have either committed their entire life to the work and/or have been able to make great advances in the field and some have mentored generations of wildlife rehabilitators. CCWR wants to recognize these important people in our community who have either retired after decades of service or passed. Let us never forget the hard working people that came before us and helped blaze this path of wildlife care, protection and conservation.

Person Being Nominated: Karen Scheuermann

Reason for Submission: Passed

Date of retirement or passing: 1/4/2020

Tell us about this person: Karen loved nature. As a kid, she rode her horse around the Orinda valley. As a young adult, she joined the peace corps in Chile. There were lots of hikes and camping trips growing up, including several high school summers where we toured national parks.

Karen's first career was microbiology, working for various county health departments. She moved to Cottonwood, CA after her kids moved out and started doing a lot more with animals, such as "Roots and Shoots", teaching kids about wildlife and did wildlife rehabilitation in Redding. Finally, she started her own TehamaWildCare organization and did wildlife rehabilitation from her house.
